Paris Saint-Germain: RC Lens oppose request to postpone Ligue 1 fixture between Liverpool Champions League ties

French club Lens say they are opposed to Ligue 1 moving their fixture against PSG next month.

PSG have requested to postpone their fixture against Lens on April 11, with the match taking place between their two Champions League ties against Liverpool.

In a statement on Monday evening, Lens said they oppose any change of date. Lens are currently in second place in Ligue 1 and one point behind PSG, who have a game in hand.

During the last-16 of the Champions League, PSG had their game against Nantes postponed before they faced Chelsea, allowing the squad extra rest between their two last-16 legs.

In an official statement, Lens explained their stance: "It appears that a worrying trend is taking shape: that the French league is being relegated to a mere variable that can be adjusted to the European demands of certain clubs. This is unsportsmanlike and it's difficult to find an equivalent idea in the other major European leagues."

The French club went on to explain how a postponement would impact their own schedule. Lens added:

"Changing the date of this match today would mean that Racing Club de Lens would not play competitively for 15 days, and would then have to play matches every three days.

"It's a schedule that is not in keeping with the one that was set at the start of the season, and it does not work for a club who cannot deal with these new constraints without consequence."

Your Site News understands that PSG are relaxed about the situation - despite Lens' statement - as any changes to scheduling falls solely under the remit of the French football authorities.

It is understood that both PSG and Strasbourg, who face Mainz in the quarter-final of the Conference League, have asked for their games to be moved.

Your Site News has been told that French teams doing well in Europe benefits the wider league and teams, and will improve France's UEFA Coefficient ranking. There is precedent for matches being rescheduled in France previously, including before the last-16 for PSG and in 2024 for Marseille.
