T20 World Cup: Pakistan players reportedly fined after failing to reach semi-finals, including leading run-scorer Sahibzada Farhan

Pakistan's players have reportedly each been fined $18,000 (approximately £13,530) for an underwhelming T20 World Cup campaign in which they failed to reach the semi-finals.

The 2009 champions saw their tournament end at the Super 8s stage after they were from Group 2.

Pakistan have missed out on the semi-finals of an ICC men's event for the fourth successive time.

According to articles in the Express Tribune and on ESPNcricinfo, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made the decision to hit the players financially after the group-stage defeat to India on February 15.

That punishment was set to be waived if Pakistan reached the last four but they missed out on the knockout stages on net run-rate after a rain-off against New Zealand and defeat to England preceded the five-run victory over Sri Lanka.

Among the players reportedly fined is opening batter Sahibzada Farhan, who broke the record for the most runs at a T20 World Cup, eclipsing Virat Kohli's haul of 319 at the 2014 event.

Farhan, who amassed 383 runs, is the only player to score two centuries in the same T20 World Cup, scoring 100 against Sri Lanka and 100 not out versus Namibia.
